Treadmills for Weight Loss
How much weight can I lose using a treadmill?
When people think about buying a treadmill, many of them wonder how much weight they can lose on a treadmill but that is a difficult question to give a definite answer to as there are so many different factors involved.
We are all different when it comes to weightloss. You could eat the same as your friend and follow the same exercise plan but the likelihood is that you will both be different shapes and sizes. The important thing to remember is that if you are regularly using treadmills even if this is just for walking then you are very likely to lose weight. The amount of weight depends on how often you use the treadmill and on the settings that you use while exercising.
The basic settings on a treadmill will alter the speed settings of how fast you are walking or running. You can also alter the gradient, for example a high gradient will raise the actual treadmill so that you are effectively walking up a steep hill. Obviously the higher you set the gradient the harder your muscles are going to be working and the more weight you will lose.
Many people buy a treadmill, set it at the hardest gradient and run as fast as they can – this may seem like a good idea but in reality they are just setting themselves up to fail. They end up getting far too tired (not to mention bored) and they stop using the treadmill. These treadmills are actually extremely clever, they have many different settings and programs which not only allow you to set the best program to your needs but it makes running on the spot actually quite fun!
The following functions tend to make your workout that little bit more interesting:
• Show distance travelled
• The time taken – you can always try to beat your personal best
• Keep track of your heart beat – keeping your heart rate above a certain level increases your chance of weightloss
• Train to a specific plan – there will likely be a number of different plans that you can follow these could include weightloss plans or training for a specific event such as a marathon.
All that is left is for you to buy a treadmill and put it to the test. Basically you will be onto a winner when it comes to weightloss as you can enjoy your workouts in the comfort of your own home without being worried about the weather putting you off.
If you do not have a lot of running experience the best program to start would be a brisk walk at a high gradient for about 3 minutes and then change to 3 minutes running at a steady pace. Alternate between the two for as long as you can (a minimum of 10 minutes to start with). The majority of treadmills will allow you to save the settings as your own personal programme.
What you will find by doing the above workout is that your 3 minutes walking will refresh you enough to do another 3 minutes running but your body is still being worked hard during the walking cycle and your heart rate will be kept at a sufficient level for optimum results.
This type of workout will allow you workout for longer, because if you just start out running then you could be tired in a few short minutes.
The bottom line is that if you buy a treadmill you can tailor your workouts to fit in with you and the body shape you are looking to achieve.
